How to Join

Mapleton Chorale is a mixed-voice community choir that rehearses weekly during the season. Interested singers age 18 and over are invited to audition twice a year - in August and January. You do not need to live in Mapleton to join.

Select a song from the list below to perform a cappella. Be prepared to sing in a variety of different keys. The song does not need to be memorized.

    • My Country, 'Tis of Thee
    • The First Noel
    • Amazing Grace
  2. 2. Vocal range check

Be prepared to sing ascending and descending warm-up exercises using a variety of vowels and articulations.

  3. 3. Tonal memory

You will be asked to reproduce simple 5-note patterns played for you on the piano.

  4. 4. Sight-reading

You will be asked to perform 1-2 simple melodies from musical notation with 30-90 seconds of practice time. Melodies will be performed on a neutral syllable of your choice.

What We Expect

Membership Expectations

Attendance

Members are allowed three absences per semester. Absences should be reported in advance to your section leader. Attending the dress rehearsal is required, and members are expected to participate in all performances unless excused by the director.

Practice

Chorale members should actively engage in rehearsals and practice on their own time between rehearsals. Practice tracks and rehearsal recordings are posted to the "Members Only" section of our website.

Memorization

Concerts are performed without printed music, so members may need extra time beyond rehearsal to memorize their parts. Exceptions may be made for large choral works.

Vibrato

While healthy vocal technique is encouraged, some pieces require straight tone. Members whose natural vibrato is strong will be expected to adjust when needed. If a vocalist cannot adapt, they may not be a good fit for certain repertoire.

Rehearsal Schedule

We rehearse Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Occasional Tuesday rehearsals or extra sessions may be scheduled for holidays or concert preparation.

Concert Schedule

We perform at least two concerts every season (usually December and May), and sometimes additional non-performances in community venues. A full calendar is provided to members each season.

Tuition

Member tuition is set annually by the Board. For the 2025-2026 season, tuition is $110.00. This covers music, administration, and operating costs. New members must also purchase a concert folder ($18). The Chorale receives no municipal funding and is fully supported by member tuition.

The chorale performs in all-concert black attire. Men will need a black dress shirt, black suit coat, black dress pants, black socks, and dress shoes. Women may choose a black dress, skirt and blouse, or black blouse and dress slacks. All members will also need black hose or socks and comfortable black shoes.
